Established in 1989, The School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) has close to 1000 students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The schools programs are of a high standard in the field of tourism and hospitality education and research. STHM operates on four SCU campuses in Australia including Lismore, Coffs Harbour, Tweed/Gold Coast and The Hotel School Sydney - adjacent to InterContinental Sydney. STHM attracts staff with strong national and international reputations in research and research training, supported by a number of important research institutions. Staff members have published extensively in academic literature and are consultants for the private and public sector throughout Australia and Asia Pacific. The school is also a core partner in the Cooperative Research Centre for Sustainable Tourism, a $60 million research enterprise and hosts the Centre for Regional Tourism Research. SCU has won numerous state tourism awards including the 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002 and 2003 Tourism New South Wales Award for Business Excellence. In 1999, Southern Cross University was the first university to win the prestigious Australian Tourism Award for Industry Education and Training and won the Australian Tourism Award again in 2004.
