Student Success Story: Natasha Angela Manuel’s Dream Career in the making

Natasha decided to study at The Hotel School Australia (THSA) because “As an international student, I learned about THSA through my visa agent. The blend of top-notch education and a strong industry network stood out to me and made me realise that I could get both education and valuable connections at THSA. I realised I could get both quality education and valuable connections at THSA. After researching further, I discovered that THSA offers boutique classes with accessible tutors and a personalised pace, and now, five terms in, my expectations have been exceeded.”

Natasha fondly recalls a special experience during her studies, saying, “Every day at THSA brings something new. When I first arrived at the Brisbane campus, I was pleasantly surprised by the cozy student lounge with free drinks and snacks. The support from everyone has been phenomenal, and there’s no divide between international and domestic students—we’re all just students connecting with each other. One of my tutors even gifted me a Queensland Maroons scarf, showing how much they care about us beyond academics. Most importantly, I landed my dream job at a hotel, thanks to the unwavering support of the THSA community.”

Describing a typical day, Natasha says, “Our classes follow a 6×6 timetable—six terms a year, with each term lasting six weeks. We meet once a week for three hours per class, which creates a focused and intense learning environment. This schedule helps with information retention and allows us to dive deeply into each subject. My typical day includes classes, catching up with classmates and tutors, and enjoying social activities like the free lunch program on Wednesdays. It’s a perfect setup for students balancing work and study.”

Regarding her upcoming internship, Natasha shares, “I’ll start my internship in Term 5 and since I’m currently working in industry in a Front Office role, I plan to explore other departments like Food & Beverage or Events, or take on a more challenging role like Duty Manager. Internships at THSA provide practical learning opportunities that broaden our skill set, and I’m confident the support from the Professional Learning Centre team will help me make the most of this experience.”

Natasha highlights how her studies have prepared her for her career, saying, “Our coursework covers various aspects of hotel and hospitality management, from operations to revenue management. The most valuable lessons, however, are the transferable skills like leadership, communication, and teamwork. These skills are applicable across any role or industry and have prepared me to excel and make a meaningful impact in my career.”

Natasha recently received a Certificate of Academic Achievement for being the 2024 Highest Grade Point Average Overall. She said that this was not only a testament to her effort, but also the dedication and support of the incredible THSA staff.

To those considering THSA, Natasha offers this advice: “My passion for interacting with people led me to embrace the hospitality industry, and I haven’t looked back. Hospitality requires not just IQ but also a high level of EQ to truly excel. If you find joy in creating memorable experiences for others, I encourage you to apply to THS—you won’t regret it.”

Natasha describes her dream career, saying, “I dream of becoming a General Manager or Director of Events or Rooms for a luxury hotel chain, or perhaps even owning my own hotel. Studying at THSA has been instrumental in bringing me closer to my goals. The Master course has equipped me with the necessary skills and knowledge needed to excel in the industry, while also introducing me to a network of mentors and peers who continuously support and inspire me.”

Natasha recently started in her dream role and explains, “I recently started as a Guest Service Agent at Sofitel Brisbane Central, my dream hotel. My goals in this role include enhancing guest satisfaction, building strong relationships, and contributing to the hotel’s reputation for excellence.
