With the lifting of border restrictions internally and visitors from New Zealand exempt from quarantine restrictions from 19 April, now is the time to upskill and secure your dream career as visitor numbers increase.
In 2020, many skilled hotel and hospitality workers returned home overseas, to be with their families, leaving some gaps in our industry. As Australia opened our states and territories, Australian hospitality businesses have voiced concerns on the impact skills shortages are having on their businesses and tourism experiences. The Financial Review (Jan 2021) highlighted the influence the border closures had on Western Australia’s hospitality and tourism businesses. Interstate workers were deterred from considering a move to WA, due to the risks of being isolated from their families. A common theme across Australia.
Good Food (April 2021) outlined the challenges for regional hospitality and tourism who had hoped to receive a boost to their tourism over the Easter break. Due to the limitation of skilled workers, they too have not been able to service their visitors to capacity, instead are opening for shorter hours and at reduced capacity for both restaurants and hotel rooms.
