You’re working or studying in hospitality and / or tourism. You’ve read all the doom and gloom about how the pandemic has cast a deep shadow over our industry. And now you’re wondering if your commitment, passion and aspiration in choosing a career in hospitality is really worth the effort – why bother if it’s all going to close down as the newspapers tell us.
Well, here’s the thing…
Businesses within the wider tourism industry, which includes accommodation, food services, events, festivals and attractions is on the way up! Organisations, large and small in our industry are being creative, up-beat and confident that there is a light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel.
The eHotelier magazine in one of their latest posts suggests that tourism and hospitality businesses are pulling out all the stops to build better experiences and connections with their customers. And it’s paying off with increased occupancies and longer stays.
Hotels are being built in our capital cities too – and as they open, they’ll need all the skilled and knowledgeable staff they can get – especially our THS students and graduates. In Sydney there are 13 hotels under construction (including a new W Hotel and Crown Hotel Resort). In Melbourne, we’ve got 23 hotels going up (including Ritz Carlton and Shangri-La properties). In Brisbane, there are several properties including Hyatt Place and Queens Wharf complex. And these are just the tip of the iceberg – hotel building is going on all round the globe.
So, for those of you who are with us at The Hotel School – you’re in the best position to take advantage of the new properties and current hospitality businesses, as they increase their customer numbers through technology and innovation. Your customer service skills and your passion are needed more than ever.
