GenAI didn’t just arrive as a trend in 2023. It’s been transforming the way our students learn, think and work. Now, it’s an essential tool for studying smarter and working efficiently.
At THSA, we’re always exploring new ways to support students as they transition into Uni life. That means taking a forward-thinking approach to education and embracing innovative tools that make a difference in how students learn, connect and succeed. One of the most exciting additions to our learning model is Generative AI (GenAI).
So, what is GenAI and why does it matter?
GenAI is a smart tool we’ve integrated into the way we teach at THSA. Led by our Academic Team, it’s part of how we’re helping students learn faster, more clearly, and in ways that reflect industry expectations and practice.
Think ChatGPT, CoPilot or Grammarly, but used to explain tricky concepts, structure assignments and support academic writing. Under the Southern Cross Model, where you learn in focused six-week blocks, it’s like having a study buddy available anytime you need it.
5 Practical AI Prompts for University
Not sure where to start? These are five go to prompts THSA students use to stay on top of their studies.
1. “Summarise my class notes and quiz me on the key points.”
A simple way to turn your notes into a pop quiz. Perfect for revising before an assessment or brushing up on class content.
2. “What are professional ways to say this in an interview or internship?”
From greeting a hotel manager to answering common questions, GenAI can help you practise your phrasing, find the right words, and sound more confident in a professional setting.
3. “Create a study plan for a 6-week term with 4 assessments.”
THSA’s six-week terms moves quickly and planning is key. This prompt helps students stay organised, manage deadlines and keep on top of their workload from week one.
4. “Explain this topic like I’m new to the industry.”
Break down complex topics from class into something you can focus on understanding and confidently applying.
5. “Give me feedback on this paragraph and suggest ways to improve it.”
Refine your thinking and writing skills while still keeping it your voice. It’s a smart, ethical way to build confidence in your academic work.
It’s a tool, not a shortcut
At THSA, we take a “first principles” approach to GenAI, focusing on how it can be used to enhance learning, not replace it. Used well, GenAI can help you structure ideas, improve your writing, and build confidence in your work. It’s not intended to generate entire assignments, but to support your thinking, strengthen your structure, and improve clarity.
Like any learning tool, its value comes from how you use it, and the support you access along the way.
