The world we live in is constantly evolving. We see rapid developments in technology, impacting the way we operate both in the business world and in our personal lives. We see social norms of communication change providing a more open but connected world. This also means that, as educators, we must adapt and evolve to offer students not only an education for the present, but one for their future.
For this reason, The Hotel School (THS) initiated a professional panel of upper and middle managers from our extensive industry network to discover what concepts will be relevant for future business leaders, and to future-proof our flagship Undergraduate program, The Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management (BBHM). This will ensure that graduates of The Hotel School are confident and fully equipped to enter the industry with the knowledge and experience to tackle any challenges that will come their way.
Course Content
As a Bachelor of Business, the course is designed to teach the fundamentals of business management including Marketing, Finance and Human Resources. We also believe it is essential for students to understand and prepare for the road ahead, which is why we have included topics such as Sustainability, Business Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship to challenge students to think outside of the box.
Sustainable Business Practices
Sustainability is becoming increasingly relevant within business, as we as a society notice the negative impact from unsustainable practices. Therefore, this course aims to educate students on the connection between the environment and tourism and hospitality. Students are challenged to develop problem solving skills through creating solutions and designing implementation and evaluation practices that can be adopted within the industry.
Industry Specific Units
BBHM students complete core units prior to choosing their electives which allows them to undertake the business principals early in their degree and focusing on specialisations towards the end. For this reason, we have dedicated units designed for specific industries including Festival and Event Management, Global Aviation and The Cruise Industry. These units will focus on the operational side of the industry as well as integrating the industry to the core units including the economics and business functions.
New Majors
Our course redesign focuses on developing opportunities and flexibility to students to follow their unique passions and aspirations. For this reason we will also be launching New Majors that give students the option to specialise in either Hospitality, Tourism or Events. These specialisations will allow students to tailor their own study program to focus on their career goals.
Work Integrated Learning
Entering full-time work after study can be a daunting process, which is why our course is designed to deliver multiple industry work opportunities for students before graduation, including; the opportunity for paid internships; weekly industry guest speakers and site inspections; casual or part-time work opportunities; and local or international industry explorations. These allow students to work and study simultaneously, gaining hands-on experience and graduating with the ability to be in a Team Leader or Supervisor position.
The Hotel School is a unique partnership with Southern Cross University, a public Australian university, and Mulpha, an international hospitality and real estate investment group giving students the connections into some of the top global industry brands in hospitality, tourism and events worldwide.
THS is a unique educational experience that offers degrees through a public University, yet offers a boutique learning environment, where each of our students are known and cared for.
It is our mission to support our students to discover and follow their passion to develop into a rewarding career. This evolution of our Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management is specifically designed to provide a dynamic, practical education that will support you in your future.
