Kate Pooley joins The Hotel School Australia to help create the future leaders within the hotel management, tourism and hospitality industries. Kate connects with prospective students at schools to showcase what the industry can offer. Kate also connects students at The Hotel School to industry to secure internships, enabling them to work and study simultaneously as part of their University degree and set them up with a career path that each student aspires to, after graduation.
“This role allows me to educate the upcoming hoteliers about the potential that there is in the world of hotels and the tourism industry. You do not need to decide what you want to be when you get older, you can work your way through a complex business and take the career path that unfolds, you can discover new passions and find your dream role anywhere in the world.
After graduating from University of Canterbury in New Zealand with a Bachelor of Commerce Majoring in Human Resource Management, I packed up my bags and moved across the ditch to the Gold Coast and completed the IHG Future Leaders Program (I-Grad) at InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Hotels and Resorts.
When I went to University I changed my business major 3 times, finally deciding to major in Human Resource Management as I loved connecting with people. At the end of my degree, I had no idea what I wanted to do with it, so I applied for the Future Leader program as I have always been intrigued by hotels and loved the service style. I was able to work across many different departments during this time and I knew I found my stride in hotels. I loved meeting new people, hearing about their stories, and travelling myself (especially with hotel discounts).
With a large amount of industry experience, I now want to connect prospective and current students to the world of hotels and share my passion for the industry to make them fall in love with it as much as I have.
I am well placed to support students in navigating the world of hotels and the beginning of their career journeys, as well as attract prospective students to a well-loved and exciting industry with endless opportunity.”
